Does anyone know why I would be able to access information
stored on my IOMEGA HDD 40GB when plugged into a WIN 98,
but not an XP machine. Read on for more details
I recently installed a Belkin USB 2.0 Controller card for
my Sony Laptop. Since I didn't have Windows XP SP1, I
installed the drivers from Belkin first and then the card,
it seemed to be working fine. I then connected my Iomega
HD and it worked for a few seconds and then the system
FROZE! I tried this a again after rebooting, thinking
that would solve it, but it didn't. Then I plugged the HD
to my built-in USB 1.1 port on the laptop--this one had
worked for months with the hard drive. The computer
recognized this HDD as Local Disk instead of IOMEGA_HDD.
Also, when I tried to access the data on the drive it
would tell me the drive is not formatted. To ensure that
the data had not been corrupted in the freeze, I tried it
on my Win 98 system. . . and it worked fine! :| On the
Win 98 system, it is labele IOMEGA_HDD and works. One
more thing I should add, I checked on the Sony website
after this had all occurred and discovered that there is a
documented case of USB 2.0 cards freezing up my particular
model and is fixed easily with a patch. I have since
downloaded this patch, but still can't access my data on
the XP system where I need it!
Sorry this is so long winded. If you can help me, or have
any questions, please respond.
