Hello all,
I recently purchased an IOMEGA external 80GB USB 2.0 desktop hard
drive (model 32660) and connected it directly to the back of my PC's
USB port.
I can read and write to the drive perfectly fine but every 10 minutes
or so (when idle) the unit would emit a 1-2 second winding noise
similar to the sound a camera makes when the film is rewinding.
I contacted Iomega on 3 separate occasions to try to get an answer,
but they were of little help... the 1st tech took the scorched earth
approach and suggested I re-format the drive, the 2nd tech said it's
normal for the drive's motor to move at intervals even when idle, the
3rd simply said he didn't know.
I would like to know if anyone with a similar drive experiences this
noise as well or if it's a sign of future mechanical problems.
Thanks in advance.
