invisible file folders/files in explorer?

I forgot

when I start windows explorer (the one to view files, is
everything named explorer?)by selecting start/search - I
have found that all folders / files are not visible (I
don't mean hidden files). example c:/ documents and
settings / owner /now the folder named "local settings"
is not visible. the folder named local settings has 3 sub
folders in it, history - temp - temporary internet files.
how do I know this - while using internet explorer I
selected - tools / internet options / temporary internet
files / settings / and this brings up a box with a
clickable area that says "view files" - now click on that
and the above listed folders are visible.
my question is - how to make these and other folders/file
visible from search.
I hope I explanied this well enough for someone to
understand it.

I think I have the gist of what you are asking. When you first open the
search screen, go to "More Advanced Options" and ensure "search system
folders", "search hidden files and folders" and "search subfolders" are all
selected. I hope that helps.

I have that problem too.

It isn't that simple to solve, i've narrowed it to the "Special Permission
for Files & Folders".

Just that the microsoft knowledge base tells me to use options that are not
available to me. Folders on right click are supposed to have a security
tab, mine doesn't. Accordingly, it is not available to file systems that
are not NTFS, but mine is.

Still trying to get a work around. Hope someone comes up with one... I'm
watching.

Go to Windows Explorer - TOOLS - FOLDER OPTIONS - VIEW tab

THere you will find both the "show hidden files" as well as "Display the
contents of system folders" (which is the one you want in this instance).
