Investment protection for Visual studio .net 2003 - 2005?

I was checking prices for Visual Studio .NET 2003 and noticed the 2005
edition is in beta stage. Are there options to protect my investment
if I bought .NET 2003 today and 2005 comes out in a few months? (other
than the upgrade price)

What exactly do you mean by "options to protect [your] investment"?
What kind of options were you thinking about?

VS.NET 2005 is due out in H1 2005 - my guess is some time in June. That
won't stop you from developing in VS.NET 2003, of course, but I don't
believe you'll be able to develop using .NET 2.0 with VS.NET 2003, and
certainly not using the new features of the languages (generics etc).

When VS.Net 2003 came out, the upgrade (from VS.Net 2002) price was 29$. I
don't know if we will see a similar price for the next version.

You may also want to consider to purchase MSDN instead of VS.Net alone. You
will receive all updates for a full year.

Well many times when a new version of a product is about to be
released, vendors give you 'investment protection' plans, basically
that you can buy the older version now and receive the new version for
free when it comes out. That's to encourage you to buy the product
instead of waiting or looking for other alternatives.

Now to HTH. So MSDN includes full version upgrades (As opposed to,
say, minor upgrades)? This could be a thing to consider then, although
the difference in price ($700 or so higher?) is kinda comparable to the
price of the upgrade. Will check into this maybe I can find better
prices for the MSDN
