I use " TreePad " , the free version from.. http://www.treepad.com/ ,
it's great for plain text ...

or if you want to include pictures ,then you might want " keyNote "
from ... http://www.tranglos.com/free/index.html ...it's much bigger, but
it's open source and has a rich text editor in it ....
