RegSeeker identifies some registry entries as "InvalidActiveX/CLSID". Three
questions:

1. Can anyone specify what the program is looking for to determine that the
entry is invalid?

2. What causes the entry to become invalid?

3. Can these entries be safely removed from the registry?

Hi Leftyb,

You can do a google on the CLSID value to gleam some information about what
program it belongs to. There is also an on-line search tool avaliable at
Castlecops.com (toolbar, BHO search) that may provide you with info.

Is it safe to remove them?

Some anti-spyware programs like Spybot S&D disable the program by making the
CLSID point to an invalid Inprocess32 COM so if you are using anti-malware
software check if you have disabled any ActiveX or BHO's.
Deleting the entries may not work as some malware will re-install the
components the next time windows is started. The best and safestway to
remove software from your machine is to use the Add/Remove Programs applet
(Control Panel)

You can safely leave the orphaned CLSID's in your registry, the only
downside may be a very slight downgrade in performance (very slight).

Regards.

Rob ^_^: Thank you for your response. I have been searching google for days
trying to find out about Invalid ActiveX items. Yes, I do have Spybot S&D
installed, no doubt they are creating the entry. I have tried looking up
the CLSID on CastleCops but I'm have trouble identifying any of them. Your
response is very welcomed. Thanks again.
