Invalid_work_queue_item Stop 0x000000096

Whenever I start up my pc I frequently am receiving a BSOD on startup with:

Invalid_Work_Queue_item

Stop 0x000000096 (OxF3AB4E4C, 0x8056147C, 0x80561440, 0xF887FAA6)
TFSNIFS.SYS - ADDRESSS F3AB4E4C BASE AT F3AA3000, DATESTAMP 3F96DD55
SSRTLN.SYS - ADDRESS F887FAA6 BASE AT F887D000, DATESTAMP 3F12F645


I have tried searching both the STOP 0X000000096 and the INVALID... message
without finding any results for either, anyone else seen this error or have
any ideas on what it means?

I haven't installed any new hardware or software in months (other than
normal windows update patches), I am figuring the XP software is probably the
culprit since its happening on boot up but I am looking for a way to resolve
without reformatting and starting over.

We have been getting the same error on a Dell Inspiron 8600. My case is
installation from scratch. Hardware diagnostics runs fine. So it comes down
to software. XP home used to run fine, but we wanted to have this notebook
run in corporate environment, so tried installing XP Pro. This really is
frustrating as there are not many resources.

Dell Support seems clueless atm.

(No idea what flinks and blinks are but the upshot is software trying to
perform an operation that is not allowed.) If you do have a Dell perhaps
some of the Dell support software that runs in the background needs to be
fixed or updated by Dell?

And a Win2000 0x96 error article (most of these apply to XP as well) that
points the finger towards incompatible hardware that was recently added:
