maybe you gentlemen didnt understand.the problem i am having is when i try to
execute the program i get a message saying i have an invalid system 32
application .it also happened today when i downloaded a demo of quake 4 (took
19 hrs!on dialup)so you can see why when these take so long it is frustrating
to find i cant use the program.i recently made a mistake and deleted all the
partitions on my computer and reinstalled windows, could that be the cause?i
implemented all your advice to no avail.what is a valid windows application
and why does it say these are not when they say they work on xp.i installed
games from disc and had no problems, splinter cell, doom, max payne etc, with the
exception of jetfighteriv.why would a startup progam interfere with programs
off the web by the way?.appreciate your help if you can.thanks.

Full text of error pop-up including anything that appears when you click
any "Details" button?

Any corresponding entries in Window's event log?

Which Windows XP (Pro / Home / Multimedia / 64bit)?

Video accelerator identification and driver version so persons with
similar hardware can compare version numbers?

Hi Stevetush,

If possible, please try to post in the same thread for the same issue.
It makes it much easier for us to follow what's been done so far. :-)

Jimmy S:

I'm beginning to wonder if this isn't the 64 bit version of the 16 bit
subsystem error due to a missing or corrupted config / autoexec issue
in 32 bit windows XP. Or might just be some of the limitations of the 64
bit OS's DirectX capabilities.

sorry im a newbie to forums.i think this is the imformation you need.i get a red x with no detail box and reads as follows.c:\downloads\quake 4_demo.exe is not a valid windows 32 application.i checked for viruses in my system.none.cant find windows event log, maybe because its not an error?.the only thing i could find in regards to that was an application error in doc watson which reads as follows,c:\windows\matrix~1.exe c0000005 iml 32! ordinal1505(6902968a)as far as my video controller its,an intel(r)82845g\gl\ge\pe\gvprcessor to i\o controller-2560.video driver version 6.14.10.4342.845gv chip set installed.no sound card.novideo card.on windows xp home editon,dell2400 series and as far as i know its pci connector data width is 32 bits.i think this is what you were referring to,is it not?also can you tell me how to access the windows event log or is that what doc watson is?thanks robert.

just to add to my last thread i found the windows errors in accessories under system information and it reads as follows faulting application matrix~1 exe.version 7.0.0198, faulting moduleiml32 dll, version 7.0.0198,fault address0x000 2968a&#x000d,&# x000a: you were maybe right in your last thread but how do i replace a missing or corrupt file?and why does it only happen with files i download and not files i download off disk?

Hi RobertVA,

You might be on to something there. It's worthwhile to investigate this further.

Cheers,
Jimmy.

Seeing that you have a dial-up and downloaded such a big file, I assume
that you are using a download manager. I had a similar problem
downloading ZoneAlarm with the manager. When I downloaded the file
without using the manager everything was fine. BTW which manager are you
using?
