The question you need to ask is 'is the copy genuine or not?' If you have
purchased it yourself and installed it hen you know it is genuine. If your
step son installed a copy that his friend gave him, I may well be that his
friends copy is not genuine - it may be a pirated copy.
Assuming your step son's friends' copy is genuine, it still cannot be
installed on two computers, i.e., yours and your step son's friends.
However, that in itself would not throw up a 'not genuine' message.
If the copy is not genuine then the only option is to go out and buy a
genuine copy.
