I am helping a freind with some pc issues. She needed a system restore due
to many virus issues. When doing the restore I got an invalid product key is
invalid. When I was talking with her she is not 100% that this restore disk
goes to this pc. This desktop had Windows XP I am guess the Home edition but
not 100% sure. The desktop does have a Produc key on it and that is the one
I am using. She seems to recall someone needing to fix this PC before and
using another restore disk. At this point I am at a loss in what to do. I
have OEM windows XP Home edtion disk but appartenly not the one that works
with this key. Help

Is the system up and running now and giving the 'product key invalid'
message?
Is there a sticker on the machine with the proper product key?

The Genuine Advantage Product Key Update Tool is only valid for
users attempting to change their current non-genuine Product Key
to a genuine COA sticker or genuine Product Key - all without a reinstall!

That is what I am putting in is the one on the PC however it is showing
invalid. They seem to of thought that the disk went to a old pc so they went
and got off the old PC and that worked now a new problem lol they do not have
the yellow applications restore cd from a gateway pc oops. now what?
