Vince R.

I'm trying to open a database at work that I've copied onto a floppy from my
home computer and am getting this error:
'C:\path\etc' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled
correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file
resides.
I can't see any way to resolve this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Vince

You may need one or more other files in addition to the application MDB,
Vince. The 'etc' bit is probably the bit we need to know in order to be able
to help you. What's it looking for - an MDB? an MDW? an ICO (icon) file?
Something else?

BTW: You're not trying to open the MDB directly from the diskette, are you?
I wouldn't advise that. Instead I would recommend copying the MDB from the
diskette to your work PC before trying to open it. You may be able to avoid
some problems by creating a folder on your work PC with the same name as the
folder the MDB was in on your home PC, and copying it there.

Thank you Brendan. I remember solving the problem that way before but in
this case I have a different user name and I can't change it at work to
correct the path. I found the easier solution any way. The problem was that
I was trying to open a .mdb file that was linked to the .dbf file with a
certain path. I resolved it by deleting the .mdb file and just made a new
one by accessing the .dbf file. Minor effort really. If there's an easy way
to avoid this issue going forward, I wouldn't mind knowing it. I'm not very
used to using access.
Thanks, Vince
