I am having a problem with my hard drive and I wanted to
boot from the XP professional install disk ( upgrade from
XP home ) to repair the master boot record. When I boot
from the CD, however, it asks for my administrator
password. When I enter it, it says that it is invalid -
however when I reboot the hard drive the password is
correct. I can't figure out what it is looking for, I
have tried various combinations of Administrator,
administrator, Admin, admin, as well as my actual
password and none of them work. It gives me three tries
and then I am forced to reboot. Of course, I could
reinstall everything, but that is a last resort. I don't
know if the problem is related to having upgraded rather
than using a full install or what. Any clues?

Hi Roger,

Try pressing ENTER instead of using your Windows password.
The administrators account to access the repair console is usually
not the user account with administrator privileges you use daily.
