invalid handle

whenver I try to download any updates or open any attachements on my e-mail,
I get messages like the following:
C:users/appdata/local/microsoft/windows/TempInternetFiles/low/contentIES...
"the handle is invalid". The only way I can open anything is by saving it to
my desktop which is really annoying. What's going on?

I think this helps prevent viruses from getting installed on your computer.
