Invalid digital certificate

I have searched this forum for an answer to my problem. The only match was
one year ago and it was NOT answered. There was a lot of frustration due I
believe to the brief reply with no follow-up comments from the Microsoft
moderator. I would like to request someone revisit the problem and resolve it
onc and for all.
Specifically, have MS Office Professional 2003. When I try to "Package to
CD" I get an error message saying that the digital certificate is either
invalid or has been tampered with. I followed the instructions in Microsoft
Knowledge Base #870924.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the viewer. I next removed and reinstalled
Office 2003 with an upgrade to SP2 but I still get the error message. Is
there something else I can do?

There are no Microsoft moderators on this newsgroup. We're all users and
volunteers.

Not that I know of, and believe me, I share your frustration; I have the same
problem with several of the computers here.

This is probably the best workaround:

Thanks for the reply. Under impression that Microsoft provided the support.
While I appreciate the volunteer efforts I am even more angry with the Gates
crowd for not providing some consideration of their customers' needs rather
than offeringit at $49 / minute. I don't know of a single user who has had
success with this version. I just checked an old Windows 98 machine with
Office 2002 and the old "Pack and Go" works on that. Problem is the time it
takes. Thanks for your suggestion.

there was a problem with the MSO.DLL. The version of MSO.DLL that eliminates
the problem should be 11,931 KB and has modified date of 6/17/2004.

Sometimes the problem occurs because SP1 for Office was installed before
"Package for CD" was ever used. In this case the files for the Viewer were
not updated because they had not yet been installed from the Office-CD.

Try the following:
* Remove SP1
* Reinstall PowerPoint from your CD; pay attention, that ALL of the
PowerPoint components are set to "Run from Computer".
* After that apply SP1 and SP2 again

Be sure to read Pia's reply if you haven't already.

To be fair, that'd be $49 or whatever the going rate is, per INCIDENT, not per
minute, and while they don't make it particularly clear in their descriptions of
support offerings, they don't always even charge that.

Some have; and in fact if it were a universal problem, there'd be far more
complaints about it here than there are.

And Pack and Go installs an older version of the viewer, one that's no nearly as
capable.

Followimg Pia/s reasoning about the sequence usung the Package to CD feature
I have decided to reformat and reinstall my programs. Looking at my hard
drive with Belarc I find I have a lot of garbage that is doing absolutely
nothing. I usually do this about every three tears anyhow so it may as well
be now. I will post back if I have any success. Thanks again for your help.
Cheers
