I have installed the audio driver for my VIA tech.
chipset, but when I go to install the driver I get a
message that states "Data is invalid". Any help would be
great.

Thanks,
Terry

Specifically where are you seeing this error message? You state you install
the driver, then you are installing a second driver and it fails?

no i mean i install the software and it doesn't work,
then i tried to manually try to update the driver for the
device and that's where it says 'data is invaild'.

If its a PCI card that error usually means
a registry protection prob. Its a known thing
with XP. Ive previously had the same error.

Until I reformatted and fixed it.

To fix it, you have to go to run and type regedit.

Then go here.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\PCI

Go thru all those VEN_XXX entries
till you find your card. Then highlight it right
mouse button and permissions. Then click
on Allow by full control OK and quit regedit

Reboot and voila it should work. The only
thing is with every PCI card you install,
you may have to do the same thing.

Until you reformat. which may or may not fix it
