Cyber Trash

Has anyone noticed the number of pings that you get every
minute your on the Internet. I have McAfee and iget
somtimes 20-30 pings a minute. Some of them try to scan
the ports. It makes yoy wonder if the virus
protectecting companies or doing this to keep you
hooked. I dont know about everyone else but I am almost
ready to hang up Internet use entirely. This has become
a highway to hades. Anyone else feel like that.

Almost certainly harmless network traffic. Comes as something of a surprise
to new users of firewall software. If your firewall is configured correctly,
you have nothing to worry about.

This is regarded as simple background noise. Some (very little) is
from hostile computers, actually intending to attack you. Other is
from servers that you were connected to at one time. Then
misconfigured computers or routers can generate this trash too. If you
have DHCP, you could be getting traffic intended for the previous user
of your ip address.

If the noise level becomes too high, install a simple NAT router. The
router will block the crap, and your cpu utilisation will drop from
not having to deal with it.
