internet-xp not host

our sympatico modem is setup on a machine running 98. My
computer is running xp. We are networked through a router
(Linksys) My browser keeps crashing. If I unplug the
router & plug it back in I can then use the internet .
Some of my programs can get through to the dial up - what
is wrong?
 
Linksys routers have been known to conflict with Windows
98. We had same problem until we upgraded all PC's to Win
XP...
