Internet usage off the charts at times

Somtimes out of know where my internet will seem to be downloading somthing
when Im not doing anything .. it will make usage of my cable modem almost
impossible. Anyone ever seen this?
 
Consider purchasing and installing a good internet security program
such as Norton Internet Security 2004:

It might be also caused by some malware programs. Go to Control Panel->Add/Remove programs and uninstall any program you feel suspicious.

Also try ad aware or Spybot.

run adaware, spybot search and destroy, spyware blaster, etc to see if
any adware's trying to get in or out.

also, consider installing a firewall so you know EXACTLY which
applications are trying to contact the internet. sygate and kerio
personal firewall are good freeware versions. there's also zone alarm,
but i don't recommend it.
 
One of the symptoms of the Blaster worm is large amounts internet 'sending' compared to lesser amounts being recieved. Go to McAfee.com and do thier free scan to see if you have this virus.
