Ok I have a small LAN around 18 people. One 2000 server
box does all functions. All traffic goes out of the office
through a Firebox Soho appliance. I want to log all
traffic on the internet by user or IP. I have tried a few
programs that didn't work to well. The Soho doesn't come
with management software of this type. I don't want to
have to add another piece of equipment to do this. To many
users are using the bandwidth for music and video. I have
to have proof on paper.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi John. You really need something like ISA proxy/firewall to track that with very
detailed reports, but that is not cheap and has a learning curve. You could install a
personal firewall product like Sygate on your server [be sure to back up first] and
use it just for it's logging ability turning off the firewall feature if you want. I
also think it makes sense to configure the Firebox with a default block outbound rule
and then create rules for allowed outbound traffic. To NOT do such opens your network
up to a much greater chance of worms/trojans. ---Steve
