internet time sync not working?

My clock is off by about 4 mins, compared to NIST. For NIST, the
'update' button on the system clock shows "An error occurred ...".


I can ping time.nist.gov. When I 'update', ethereal (packet sniffer)
shows one NTP packet begin sent to 192.43.244.18, and a response
received from there. The response is only 90 bytes, which I'd guess is
not enough to include the time. After that, nothing happens.

I'd appreciate any insight on this matter.

Have you tried a different server?

I happen to use time-a.timefreq.bldrdoc.gov on my Vista and XP boxes...

Adjust Date/Time from the menu. Select the Internet Time tab. The user can
either use the default time server or the user can simply type in the
address of a new time server in the Server: address box. Tap Update Now to
verify the server connection can be made. Tap OK to finish the
configuration. Note that the user must have Administrator permissions to
configure date and time on a Windows XP machine.

Duh. I'd been looking at that box, but it never occurred to me that I
could just _type_ in there. Thanks. My time is now sync'd, too.
