Internet surfing being logged

Hello to all.
I discovered my boss is spying on the surfing habits of the employers
on the network.
He is using the administrator at the server's computer to check the
logs of the networked computers.
I figured if I change the IP address of my computer , and/or change
the user name, by opening a new user account he wouldn't be able to
figure out the identity of the computer doing the surfing. I have
sufficient privileges to carry out these changes.
Is it possible also to change the computer name? I assume the server
is either a Windows 2000 or 2003 PC.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Gerard

Hello Gerard,

If surfing for you is more important then working, i can understand your
boss. Check you contract, what is allowed or not and talk to your boss.

Best regards

It is company equipment. The company can do what they want with it.

Perhaps you may consider getting a different boss. But don't mention you
made this posting when you ask him for a letter of reference.

I tried changing the Computer name as I figure that is what the server
log files monitor but it asks me for the Network Administrator's
password ... so I guess I'll have to dig that out of somewhere.
Anyone with good ideas.

If you are on a domain, that will cure the surf logging, as you will
find the computer won't connect any more.

You are assuming I'll give it a name which is unregistered ... no way.

....and how are you going to do that? There is no such thing as a Registered
"unused" name just laying around for you to use. And how are you going to
do any of that without the Domain Administrator credentials which you don't
have,...the Domain does not acknowledge the Local Admnistrator on the
machine.

Then after all that,...the Firewall doesn't filter based on Machine name
anyway.

After that reply of his, I just shruggged.

Oh ...who believes in reference letters nowadays.

And I'm feeling like an attack of the nasties is starting to develop...
disjoining his machine from the domain may be an option for him...

Oh really.
I think some people have their brains disjoint from reality.

Yes, indeed. Certainly someone trying to sneak in through the back door
and secretly add a new machine and new users on a work domain would fall
in that category.
