I know there are many internet speed tests and the results of the tests may
vary. Is there one that is the best test? That is which one has proven to be
the most accurate?

Dan Elwell's broadband speedtest is the best I've found.

http://www.broadbandspeedtest.net/

Note that any speed test of this nature is *not* giving you the speed of
your connection - it is giving you the speed between you and the server it
connects to. To get as accurate a picture as possible downloading a large
file from one of your ISP's servers (preferably one a very few hops away)
and measuring the transfer rate with something like DU Meter is your best
bet.

Broadband Reports.com at http://www.dslreports offers tests connecting to 7
different servers and keeps an extensive database of speed test results.
The database can be searched by provider and by zip code. The servers have
enough capacity to deliver more or less the full bandwidth of your capacity.
Broadband Reports is probably the most comprehensive source of broadband
information and tests.

It doesn't matter. Results will always vary; sometimes greatly.
