Hi all. I am puzzled about an auction house's web site that I view
regularly with IE. A key page on the site is just too wide and slides
way off the right side of my screen. Scroll bars let me view it all,
but I don't understand why it doesn't just fit onto my 1024x768
screen.

The site is http://www.tomhallauctions.com/ and the problem occurs
when I click on Gallery/Antiques/Upcoming Auctions. I have told the
auctioneers about the problem, but they say it looks fine to them and
that they've had no other reports of the problem.

This is the only site that does this on my computer. Do I have
something set wrong in Tools/Internet Options or ... ? Any help would
be appreciated (as would reports that others have the same problem).
Maybe if there really is a problem with their site we can get it
fixed.

Marshall

Most likely they have that page set and locked at some size.
If you use the view/source menu you can look at their code
and see what it says.
You can use the accessibility features of IE to ignore web
page settings.

I just looked at the page you specify, and the width of everything is
a perfect fit. No sideways scroll bar at all. And I run at
800 x 600.

Frankly I don't understand how anyone can stand 1024 x 768 with a 17"
monitor or less, but that is beside the point.

Hmm. Interesting. Wonder why it does it here -- and is the only one
that does splay itself out like this.

I use an 18-inch flat panel monitor, and the sharp resolution and
actual 18-inch picture (no dark borders as with a crt) works well for
me.

Maybe he is trying to increase the hit count.

| It works fine on my 19 inch CRT at 1024 x 768 - even as
far away as the UK

Shows up fine on my Princeton 17' LCD at 1024x768 and I don't even have IE
maximized.

Hardly, if it's me you're talking about. I have nothing to do with
the site, except that we go to the auction house on occasion, and we
like to look at the items the night before.

Anyway, it is quite interesting that no one is having problems but me,
and it verifies what the auctioneers said. BUT no one has offered a
suggestion about what odd setting might do this. Curiouser and
curiouser.

Marshall

Have you set any accessibility options, such as ignore fonts
and sizes on webpages?
