internet shutdown on new win xp install

installed win xp pro on a dell 3 yr old computer with
win98, cannot stay connected to the internet. message
received 'system will shut down' RPC service terminated. I
dont have a clue how to resolve this issue. Help

You have the Blaster Worm which Windows 9x was not susceptible to.
