Hello,

I have about 8 shortcut icons that connect direct to the internet. Some are
Yahoo , jokes, etc. They have been working fine. Now when I click the
icon a pop up says "Windows cannot find httpxxxx, make sure you typed it
correctly and try again". I click the ok and the popup disappears and the
tool bar now has the name of the icom I was trying to get, I click the
toolbar and the url I was looking for starts up. It does this on all items.
They all work after going through the procedure. I have run Spybot and add
aware. I use AVG which did tell me I had a bug or something. I did remove
it. I am using win xp home. Any Ideas??? Thanks in advance.

Hi Old Geaser,

Have you installed any software recently? Or, registry cleaners used?

Try this:

Type 'Regsvr32 /i Shdocvw.dll' in the RUN dialog
and
Open Internet Options, Programs tab and click 'Reset Web Settings'
Restart Windows.

Hi Ramesh,

You hit it right on the head. I had heard so many good reports on the new
Mozilla Firefox browser, I installed it a couple days ago. Evidently I did
not try the other programs I mentioned until today. I did as you suggested
and went back to Internet Explorer and made it the default browser and now
the programs work fine. To test it I started Firefox again and the programs
would not start. Changed back to IE and as the default. Programs work
again. Guess I will keep using IE or put up with the way the programs open
if I use Firefox. Thanks for everything.

Follow up,

I found if I leave IE as default browser, start Firefox, uncheck the popup
asking if I want to make firefox the default and check no, I can open
either Firefox and IE and still get the other programs to start as they
should. Thanks again.

You're welcome Old Geaser.

<off topic>
How does Firefox handle .URL files? For me they still open in IE. Rest all (HTM, HTML) associates correctly.
