Michael

Hello!

I'm running XP Pro on my host machine networked with 1 client machine
(cross over cable) with XP Home. This morning they were both working
fine. I must have blown the NIC in the host and had to replace it.
After replacing it I had a hard time getting networking back up. I now
have both machines pinging each other and I can access client from host

and even print to shared printer. I cannot get the client machine to
get on the Internet nor does it access the host "C" drive even with
permissions and sharing enabled.

I have raked my brain all day trying to get Internet sharing back up on

the client machine. I have checked and rechecked IP addresses but still

no go!!!

HELP - Any suggestions at this point would keep the headlines from
reading Man goes insane over Internet Connection....:-)

Thanks in advance. Below is Requested data :-)

Michael,

1) Enable DHCP client on Compaq.

2) Enable ICS on HAL-II. Run the NSW, and select
This computer connects directly to the Internet. The other computers on my
network connect to the Internet through this computer.

3) Make your future posts in this thread, responding to my posts, and type your
answers after mine.

4) Once we get Internet service working on both computers, we can work on file
sharing.

Hi Chuck

How do I enable the DHCP on client?
I can handle #2

Michael,

Should be Settings - Network Connections - Local Area Connection - Properties -
TCP/IP Properties.

Or run the Network Setup Wizard and select
This computer connects to the Internet through another computer on my network or
through a residential gateway.

OK

Have done that. Client will not ping host - host will ping client. Host
connects to Internet but client still cannot.

Thanks

OK, Michael. Let's start with some basic analysis.

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall. There are other possibilities too. Read this
article with an open mind.

Please provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer, so we
can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely:

Hello Chuck

Good news! I was able to get everything working again by re-examing my
on-board NIC connection. Then I did a system restore back two weeks and
wohla - I'm back in business. I think part of the problems was that I
was trying to use two different NIC connections.

Thank you very much for your time and helping me with this issue.
