hello everybody, any help is appreciated.. here is my problem.

I have a firewire network between 2 computers running xp

the computers share the files and the printers with no problem.
but Internet sharing doesnt work.

There is no Internet gateway icon on the network connection screens of
any of the computers.

the settings are standard 192.168.0.1 (server) 192.168.0.2 (client).
the client has the dns and the gateway pointed to 192.168.0.1

the internet connection on the server is shared (all 3 boxes checked)
and not firewalled. I am not running any other firewall and i disabled
the antivirus.

If i re-run network wizard everything it does is messing up my
firewire connection on the client. (it set to automatic ip and I need
to reset it manually to 192.168.0.2).

I started the Universal plug and play on both machines, as well as the
SSDP.

in my view the problem is that the Internet gateway (IG) is not
appearing. It indeed appear a few months ago and i was able to share
the internet. But when i recently connected the 2 computers again it
was gone. To make it appear 2 months ago I just tried with network
wizard.. after a few times IG miracously loaded in the client machine.
Not sure what I did then , but it appear to me quite a random event.

anyway, If you think i am missing something let me know

thank you

The first question is why are you using firewire for networking PC's
together. That is a job for Ethernet.

Firewire is fine for networking. This Microsoft web page has details:

Planning a Home or Small Office Network
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/networking/homeplan/step3.asp

Here's an excerpt:

"IEEE 1394, also known as firewire or I link, is more than a fast,
convenient technology to connect your digital camcorder to your PC to
create custom home movies. With a 1394 connection, each PC can be
networked together with the fastest data transfer rate available on
the market today. It’s the perfect solution for multi-player gaming,
streaming audio and video, and graphics-intensive documents like
PowerPoint presentations."
