Internet: sending but not receiving

We've got broadband but after two days of working brilliantly, we can no
longer browse.

Masses of data is being sent out (despite no programs being used), but web
pages fail to load. We left it on all night, last night, and it was still
sending!

The connection is there (says 576kps-odd).

Have tried turning off the Windows XP firewall and AVG 7 anti-virus.

We did a major Windows update before this problem.

Thanks!

Hi,
First clear the cache (Temporary Internet Files) and History from IE> Tools>
Internet Options> General> Delete files (and delete offline content when
that dialog pops up.) It's often recommended that the TIF folder be kept at
about 50 MB (Settings.)

Next, shut everything down for 4-5 minutes- that includes the computer,
modem, router (if used.)

There are many other possible solutions at
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#dns
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers2.htm#secure_sites

Hope this helps,
Don
