internet problems

I have problems with connecting to the internet, connects first time then disconnects every couple of mins, i can only go to a few pages then "cannot find server" comes even though i am still connected, when i disconnect from statis bar it freezes then tells me "programme has to end" and then disconnects. i have had a virus and have used all of the removal tools and still i have problems, this is only recent as computer did work before. please help

Call waiting on your phone line? Replace the phone cable, it might be a
cable or connector fault. In the modem properties, is there an idle
timeout setting for 120 or 180 seconds? From a command prompt type:
sfc[space]/scannow . Sit back while system file checker does exactly
that to restore missing or corrupted files.

Are you using MSN dialup? If so, give MSN a support call and see what
they have to say.
