Tried to fix someones computer the other day. Every time
they switch on and boot up their computer always attempts
to connect to the internet. If you try to cancel it just
keeps coming back and trying to connect. You have to let
it connect or you cannot do anything. The same when you
come of the internet it just wants to sign on again and
will not let you do anything unless you log on. Something
wrong with the start up me thinksbut I am damned if I can
find the problem and the windows help facility is as much
use as a chocolate kettle as usual.
The computer did have the MS_BLAST.A virus but have
managed to rid this using trend micro software. How do
you stop internet connection from kicking in on boot up
and other times.

Go back to the virus software. Completely update it. Run a full hard drive
virus scan. There may be infected files that can not be cleaned or deleted.
If these are system files they will need to be overwritten from the Recovery
Console by using the XP CD. I've had to do this for a couple of workstations
and they were behind a $$$ firewall.

If this is a dial-up connection, right down the setup information for it and
delete the dial-up entry in Network Connections. Reboot the computer and see
if some app or service gives an error or message window.
