I just got cable internet yesterday. I can't power of my
computer if the cable modem is still plugged in. If i
try to, using the "shut down" command, the computer just
restarts. If i just power off the modem, that is not
enough...the computer still restarts. I have to
completely unplug the modem to get the computer to turn
off. I've talked to my ISP for assistance, but they said
it was a microsoft problem. Instead of paying $100.00 to
ask a simple question, I thought I'd try this! I'd
appreciate any input!! Thank you...feel free to email me!

.
Have you check the BIOS settings of your computer for
Wake on LAN function? if this setting is enabled, you may
find by disabeling it, you can succesfully enter "sleep"
mode.

Who told you it would cost $100.00 to talk to Microsoft?
If XP came pre installed on this computer you should first
consult the computer manufacture for support, otherwise it
may cost $35.00 to talk to Microsoft and that fee could be
refunded if no resolution is found,
