Hi... I just want to ask you, if someone know how to upgrade Win2003 printing
server to list Windows Vista as a client plantform for drivers management.

I have a win 2003 working very good in win 2000 and xp clients, but now
vista clients give the error: There are no drivers to windows vista.

Thank'u

Alonso

Do the printer manufacturer(s) for your printer(s) have Vista drivers on
their website?

Yes. There are many printers of 2 manifactures... Lexmark and HP.
I downloaded drivers from hp.com and lexmark.com for win xp and vista,
installed and tried.

Thank'u

Alonso.

Just 1 minute ago, I succefully installed a Internet Printer in Windows
Vista from a Windows 2003 server. This is the escenario:

In Windows Vista, I'm logged with mi domain administrator.... on ly domain
administrator can complete the "Connect" function en
http://<myserver>/printers
If O log on in Vista with a mortal user, this can't connect the printer...
there are a error:

Printer installation failed
The printer name is invalid

Some idea about this error in both scenarios?

Alonso.

Response from a fellow tester

Question: Do I need to upgrade win2k3 server with vista drivers so that I
can use Internet printing?

Answer: No

Question: Only Admin can install a non Inbox\OEM driver using Internet
printing on Vista Client?

Answer: Yes

Question: how do I install internet/HTTP printer as a Standard User?

Answer:

Step 1) if the driver is Inbox

Resolution:

*log on as standard user on vista client *Open Internet Explorer
Tools>Internet Options>Security tab> Select Intranet> uncheck enable
protected mode and set security level to Medium {See images} *Now try to
create an http connection as user

Step 2) if the driver is OEM / non inbox

Resolution:

*Log on as admin on vista client

*You need to install the driver on client as admin *Log on as standard user
and try to create an http connection as user

Step 3) Error "the printer name is invalid"

Resolution:

*log on as admin on vista client

*Go to control panel>classic view>user accounts>turn user account control on
or off>check the box use user account control UAC to help your computer
click ok>Restart machine *log on as standard user on vista client

* change IE settings as mentioned in step 1

* try to create an http connection

* if driver is inbox it will create an http connection: if driver is OEM it
will ask for admin credentials to download driver and add to driverstore

Try the following workaround scenarios and get back to me if you have any
more questions.

Thanks

Steve
