I have windows xp and my Nortons Internet Security says
it has just expired. I had a guy fix my computer a while
back and he said that this will never go out of date and
expire, only the anti-virus will?

Now that i have no Nortons Internet Security, some
websites dont work and say "Cannot find server". Sites
such as Hotmail, my telstra email, my commonwealth bank
online banking all dont work.

Is there something I can do to be able to view these
sites, such as altering my computer firewall or internet
settings?

In Internet Explorer -
1. Tools > Internet Options > Advanced
2. Scroll down to the Security Settings.
3. Make sure that the two boxes are checked that say
"Enable SSL 2" or "Enable SSL 3".
Try your secure sites.

Another thing you can try is:

Go to start/run
Type in: regsvr32 softpub.dll

Page Cannot Be Displayed Error During SSL 3.0 Server Session Timeout

"The Page Cannot Be Displayed" Error Message When You Try to Start Internet
Explorer

I tried all of those things but nothing worked. It still
comes up with "The page cannot be displayed" with
Hotmail, Commonwealth bank online, Bigpond email.

I even tried doing Windows Updates from Microsoft but it
said there was an error.

Could I have a virus and should I get a person out to fix
the problem?

Luke,

Check for the RNIS utility from Symantec.com. It removes the traces of of
Norton Internet Security from the system. See if that helps, if not try
creating a new user profile. After creating a profile, copy the user data to
the newly created profile [Important - except the ntuser.* files]

See: How to Copy User Data to a New User Profile:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811151

If that fails to solve the issue, see:
Troubleshoot Situations Where You Cannot Complete MSN Sign-up or Connect to
SSL Secured (128-Bit) Web Sites
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813444

You could also try an Advanced Clean Boot which eliminates all third-party
services and applications from startup up with Windows. This helps you to
isolate the issue.

I dont know that the new user profile thing will help at
all. I dont know how to log in as administrator anyway.

Nortons was already uninstalled.

I guess I just need a Technician to put in some more
memory. How much extra memory should I get put in and how
much would that cost?. How much would it be for a 40gb
hard drive or prices for bigger ones?

Upgrading the memory will not help in this case. You may want to try the
same explained in the MSKBs.
