I am operating a laptop computer, wireless (g) network card, (b) router,
cable internet, XP Home, using IE6, with SP2 and all updates. A specific
forum page that I frequent a lot is driving me nuts. Every time I try to
post on this forum page, my computer locks up. I have tried other browsers,
downloading Netscape, Mozilla, and Firefox and the same thing happens with
them, also. Everything freezes, and it takes a power off, and reboot to get
the machine going again. I have run the new Microsoft Spyware, S&D, and
AdAware. I have done a Chkdsk, and I am out of ideas. What am I missing?

I am having a similar problem that happens only occassionally and at
different websites. I am curious as to what kind of error messages your
getting. I always get a "hung app" error. Are you getting the same, and are
they in the Documents\Temp\WERe12f.dir00\iexplore.exe.mdmp and
"appcompat.txt" files?

Hanging application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, hang module

hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

This is copied of event viewer

The fact that you have to power off indicates a problem with a driver.
Most likely it indicates a problem with a video driver, e.g. with a specific
graphic, icon, or effect being used by the page.

Assuming there are graphics on the page try (as a workaround)
unchecking Show Pictures (Options, Advanced tab, Multimedia section)
(or use Toggle Images.exe if you have it).
Or use your Display Properties to reduce the demands IE may be
putting on your video driver and card. (E.g. press Win-D,Menu-r,
Ctrl-Backtab, etc.)

Similarly, if there are sound effects associated with that page
do things that temporarily prohibit sound (not just mute)
or at least reduce the specified capabilities of your hardware.

Good luck
