I have a desktop PC with a dial-up internet conection
networked to a laptop (wirelessly). I can share files and
printers, but don't know what do do about the internet.
What do i have to do so i can use the internet from my
laptop?
I have tried connecting (whilst on the desktop) and then
trying to open internet explorer on the laptop- but it
displays the default offline page, and wont load any
others so i suppose it isnt connected.
Please help

I am having the same problem. My original network worked
fine, and all that you SHOULD have to do to connect to the
internet via broadband (? you didn't mention how you
connect) is to run the Network wizard with the correct
settings (ie. Gateway).

However, after a router crash, I am having the same
issue. I can connect with only one computer on the
network. No amount of reconfiguration will grant access
to any of the others. I can see the network, but cannot
access the internet. The router can be pinged...??

Can you ping your router? Try command prompt (Start-->run-
->cmd. Type ping(space between ping and the next entry)
your router IP address (Usually something like 192.168.0.1
for D-Link, 192.168.1.1 for Linksys). If you can ping the
router, at least your network is working. If not, your
network is configured incorrectly.

If ANYONE has an idea why I can ping my router but cannot
connect to the internet, please let me know.

Good luck

You sort of missed the boat here. You are trying to run
the internet from the desktops / desktop. As if you
where remote controlling it. You are not remote
controlling.

It is a dial up circuit and it assigns ip numbers to the
desktop computer. If you share the dial up, only one of
you can dial at a time and the INTERNET ISP will assign a
ip number to whom ever is iniating the call. Thus, your
laptop uses the desktops shared modem to call the isp and
then the desktop passes all the information from the
phone call to your laptop.

This help?
