When I go to internet options, the window that comes up
does not have "general" etc.
it has listed across the top for places to make
changes, "security, privacy, content, connections,
advanced"
can anyone tell me why it changed on me. i use to have
the other capabilities.

TD,
Open Regedit to the following locations:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control
Panel]
"GeneralTab"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control
Panel]
"GeneralTab"=dword:00000001

Value Data: (0 = disable restriction, 1 = enable restriction)

If either or both are found either delete the entry or change the value.
Note: always Export before editing

Thanks, but I am a novice and don't even know how to get
to Regedit and do you mean to change the 1 to a 0?
thanks for your help.

TD,
Start | Run (type) "regedit" (no quotes)
Scroll down to the desired location .........
Highlight the desired entry (right pane)
Right-click and select: Delete

[example]
"GeneralTab"=dword:00000001

In most cases this entry is generated by spyware that is preventing you from
making the desired change(s). You really need to check your system with
either Ad-Aware or SpyBot (see below), then finish up with HijackThis!.
Visiting the SpywareInfo forum to finish cleaning up your system is highly
recommended, as neither Ad-Aware or SpyBot can no longer *completely* remove
these pests.
