I recently bought a new computer with Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6.0
installed. I find that I have a problem getting to some web sites. After
going to "Tools" then internet options and privacy, I find that my privacy
setting is being changed from the default setting to custom setting. After
changing it back to the default setting I am able to get to the web site.
What is causing this to change by itself?

In WinXP SP2: You can fix Winsock by going to Start | Run and typing
CMD

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
