David K

For several months my internet explorer has frequently,
and on a wide range of sites, failed to work, while on
others it is fine. Specifically when logging onto
hotmail, however it occurs on many other unrelated sites
too.

The page does appear on my screen for a split second then
this message appears:

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable.
The Web site might be experiencing technical
difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser
settings.

I could understand if this happened all the time on one
or two sites, but this is not the case. It is very
randomly timed, occurs on many sites but not all.

I have run all the standard troubleshooting tests, and
have installed adaware incase it is caused by a
programme.I also have an upto date virus checker.

Please help!

Yours Sincerely

David K

Hi David,

To reinstall IE:
Copy and paste the following line to the Start > Run prompt, it will
try to reinstall IE and the routine will need the XP CD.

rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %systemroot%\inf\ie.inf

Alternatively, the routine will ask for diverse files, go to a command
prompt (Start > Run > cmd) and type
dir name_of_file_needed /s (Example dir iesinfo5.ins /s)
This will tell you the location of the file, browse to that path and
click retry.
You will have to do this for 5 or 6 files, which can be bothersome.
But it can also be reinstalled without the CD.
