Any ideas why when either rebooting or just starting it up, that the internet
isn't autoconnecting? I always have to go to the start button & select
"connect to".

You haven't supplied any details as to what kind of Internet connectivity
you have.
That would be a start toward getting a meaningful answer.

A second question is WHY you would wish to be connected to the Internet if
you are not using the connection. For example, opening your browser could
automatically establish a connection to the Internet, depending on what kind
of Internet connectivity you have.

Among the necessary details are the type of ISP service, modem, protocol,
Local Area Network, router, firewall, and more.

Or you could just refrain from USING the 'Connect to' button, and just
depend on opening your browser, email program, newsreader, or applications
that use Internet connectivity as necessary.

At any rate, if you have a broadband connection to your Internet Service
Provider, it is likely that your Internet connection already IS open.

And some would say that the requirement to explicitly open an Internet
connection is a security feature rather than a problem.
