Internet no longer works through the router, When I
first hooked up to the router through a cable modem I was
able to see the internet Web pages,
Then for a while I needed to go back to my original
configuration to use my other computers on a hub without
the XP computer.
The XP computer will not work internet through the hub
either.
Surely there is an answer to my question within this MS
Public network "microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web"
but with 2,227 pages I grew tired of reading. It would be
nice if there was some kind of search engine for those
pages. The following are some of my efforts to solve the
problem.
Now I am trying to connect the XP computer back through
the router, but the internet no longer works.
I did an Automated Troubleshooting with Network
Diagnostics Every thing showed a green Passed. But the XP
still doesn't work through the router on the internet.
It would seem at the moment my XP is unable to send as a
client a DHCPDISCOVER packet.
I am not familiar with how to check this but one document
suggested. Windows XP Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
(DHCP) client times out or roams between access points,
the client may not be able to obtain IP addresses from the
DHCP server.
Is there a way to for an XP user, operator, to issue a
DHCPDISCOVER?
To do this I assume the following is part of what is
needed to set this up what else am I missing?
Under [ Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties ]
selected> Obtain an IP address automatically
selected> Obtain DNS server address automatically
Why is it XP windows could make its self work the first
time but you can't set it up again?
Besides me erasing the hard disk and reloading windows
again is there a way to erase just XP networking and let
MS XP Professional (CD-rom) reload the networking portion
of windows again?
