Internet no longer works through the router, DHCP?

Internet no longer works through the router, When I
first hooked up to the router through a cable modem I was
able to see the internet Web pages,
Then for a while I needed to go back to my original
configuration to use my other computers on a hub without
the XP computer.
The XP computer will not work internet through the hub
either.
Surely there is an answer to my question within this MS
Public network "microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web"
but with 2,227 pages I grew tired of reading. It would be
nice if there was some kind of search engine for those
pages. The following are some of my efforts to solve the
problem.

Now I am trying to connect the XP computer back through
the router, but the internet no longer works.
I did an Automated Troubleshooting with Network
Diagnostics Every thing showed a green Passed. But the XP
still doesn't work through the router on the internet.
It would seem at the moment my XP is unable to send as a
client a DHCPDISCOVER packet.
I am not familiar with how to check this but one document
suggested. Windows XP Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
(DHCP) client times out or roams between access points,
the client may not be able to obtain IP addresses from the
DHCP server.

Is there a way to for an XP user, operator, to issue a
DHCPDISCOVER?

To do this I assume the following is part of what is
needed to set this up what else am I missing?
Under [ Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties ]
selected> Obtain an IP address automatically
selected> Obtain DNS server address automatically

Why is it XP windows could make its self work the first
time but you can't set it up again?
Besides me erasing the hard disk and reloading windows
again is there a way to erase just XP networking and let
MS XP Professional (CD-rom) reload the networking portion
of windows again?

Well -- what happened if you connect the XP directly to
your cable modem, does it work ???

I am slo having same problem, in my case i connected
directly to the Cable modem but after 1 or 2 mts it can't
browse internet any more..

I think XP some how has some kinda bug with internet
browsing........see my notes above..

cheers

Hi,

Right click on My Network Places and select "Properties". The Network
Connections window will open. Here find your current connection icon and
right click on it and select "Repair". This will release your current IP
address and attempt to get a new one.

I was very pleased with receiving a return reply. Thanks
to Jaxy, and Marc Reynolds Microsoft Technical Support.
For Jaxy, I have connected the XP computer
directly to my cable modem, does it work? No, it does not
work, but my other 98 computers do work with the Internet
through a hub or original computer directly through the
modem.

Under "Network and Internet Connections" in the left
panel under "See Also" I found "My Network Places" a right
click on any of the icons under "See Also" has no result
nothing happens when I right click on "My Network Places".
After reading some more down on the bottom of:

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the
Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of
this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows
XP Service Pack 1.

I wonder if this is my problem this XP has never
been on the Internet to be updated.

Hi,

Right click on My Network Places and
select "Properties". The Network

sounds like a similar problem to mine. Use to work with
dynamic configuration. My other 2 computers are fine. I re-
loaded XP but nothing.

If you get an answe that works, please let me know and
i'll do the same.

bye
