I am using an xp home system. My local area connection
used to work fine. I had to do a reinstall of xp.
Everything is fine except my local area connection stops
working and I have to right click and pick "repair."
Then it works for awhile, then I have to do the same
thing. Any thoughts? Should I reinstall again? I have
updated all drivers and nothing. MS tech support didn't
help and my ISP is about useless. Please advise!
Thanks in advance.

Please be a tad more clear and specific.
Did this computer come with XP Home pre-installed?
If not, was it an upgrade or a clean install?
Did this issue start before the reinstall of XPH or after that reinstall?
What all exactly was happening that prompted the reinstall?
Is this a cable modem connection?
Is there a router involved?
Is there a third-party firewall involved?
Is there an Anti Virus program installed?
Have you scanned for viruses and spywares?
How long is "awhile" after repairing the LAC?
There is certainly no use in another reinstall.
You have already done that and it did not resolve the issue.
By the way, after that reinstall, did you go to the Windows
Update site and get all critical updates installed again?
When you say that MS tech support did not help,
do you mean that you actually called MS XP support?
If so was any conclusion reached at all?
If not, you can call back and have a different tech take
a look at your case. Another tech might have more experience and
better troubleshooting skills and could make a big difference in
resolving the issue or determine what needs to be done to get the
issue resolved.

Please be a tad more clear and specific.
Did this computer come with XP Home pre-installed?
*not preinstalled, upgrade from 98
If not, was it an upgrade or a clean install?
*upgrade
Did this issue start before the reinstall of XPH or
after that reinstall?
*after, before was fine
What all exactly was happening that prompted the
reinstall?
*trial of Norton expired and I caught Kazmor/Hantaner
worms. xp would not boot, so I installed 98 then Cleaned
with Mcafee, then put xp back on. I now use the free AVG
virus program because it found a virus that Mcafee did
not (after multiple virus scans).
Is this a cable modem connection? *not cable, but dsl
Is there a router involved? *no router
Is there a third-party firewall involved?
zone alarm, but I have tried internet w/o it, no
change
Is there an Anti Virus program installed? *free AVG
Have you scanned for viruses and spywares?
* multiple with Spybot and Ad-aware - nothing
How long is "awhile" after repairing the LAC?
*awhile is 4-5 web pages. That is all I can get to
before I have to click the tray icon and select "repair"
There is certainly no use in another reinstall.
You have already done that and it did not resolve the issue.
By the way, after that reinstall, did you go to the Windows
Update site and get all critical updates installed again? *immediately!
When you say that MS tech support did not help,
do you mean that you actually called MS XP support?
*I have done the chat version and the phone version.
The chat version had me reset settings in IE to default
and clean downloaded programs folder. Phone support told
me it was my isp. Isp says everything okay and that it
is software. The connection works in safe mode
perfectly, but not within xp.
If so was any conclusion reached at all?

a look at your case. Another tech might have more experience and
better troubleshooting skills and could make a big difference in
resolving the issue or determine what needs to be done to get the
issue resolved.
*That may be the only answer.
Thanks for the help, sorry for seeming unclear.
