Installed Windows XP this week and finally got hooked up
to the internet. It appears that every time I connect, my
computer send out quite a lot of information, according
to my activity (cuurrently SENT=11,839,834 .vs.
RECEIVED=3,145,654.....

I know that XP does some type of "registering", but how
long should it take and how many bytes does it take.

TIA

Richard

Activation is done once, and doesn't take that much. Automatic updates runs
in the background and could account for some of this traffic.

You may want to update your Antivirus software and scan your system.

Richard,

There may be any other application accessing the internet. Such as
Symantec's LiveUpdate, Automatic Updates service. Most programs
automatically check for updates without notifying the user. You may consider
using a firewall program and check which application is accessing the
internet and track down the culprit. This way you can detect if a trojan is
installed in your system.
