Internet Hook Up !

Upon installing windows 2000 Pro. it for some unknown reason will not acknowledge my cable modem.However,when I have windows 98 in the rack the cable modem is deteced. Can or will anyone help me please,my windows 98 hard drive is about to crash and I need to get all of my files off of the 98 (hd) AND onto windows 2000,but I most defininately need to be able to access the internet.
