internet hell

Someone please help me!!!!
I have a PC here running XP home, no SPs. Could not logon
to any websites, would always kick to 'page cannot be
found, check....' page. Other than that, surfed fine.
Once I saw no SPs, I immediately went to WindowsUpdate,
where I could not update anything because the site could
not communicate w/ my PC (prob for the same reason I could
not logon anywhere else). So, I downloaded SP1 , and also
found the patch that should fix the logon prob (dealing w/
java errors).
To my dismay, once SP1 was installed, I no longer had
internet connection. The signal wouldnt seem to go beyond
my router. On top of that, the patch to fix my original
prob NEEDS SP1!!! If I uninstall SP1, i get my internet
back. Cannot find a full version of IE6.0 anywhere on
Microsoft.com , have add/removed it a couple times with no
effect. Have add/removed SP1 a couple times, thinking it
may have been a bad install, no effect.
Side note, the PC is on a wireless network, and also
Outlook IS able to access mail account, even though IE
cannot access internet. One last thing, IE is also acting
odd. Usually if IE cannot find a DNS server, it tries for
a little while, then gives you the 'page cannot be
displayed' screen, and stops searching. On this machine,
it cannot reach any site, but keeps trying, and trying,
until you stop it, showing only a blank page.
How do I get SP1 in there without messing up IE6?
Appreciate the help!
Chad
