internet freezes

I am not sure what version of Explorer I am running. I am using Windows 98,
if that helps anyone.
My comuter almost totally freezes after surfing a little bit to news sites.
My Yahoo IM will still work, but the rest is so dead that even when I try to
shut down, I end up with no response from my computer other than a dark
screen with the time showing, though it does not change. I think the problem
involves space allocation, as if I use some of my freespace and then it shuts
down, nearly completely. I know almost nothing about fixing computers. Does
anyone have any simple solutions for a moron like myself?

First eliminate any spyware.
What You Should Know About Spyware

CAUTION!!!!! Removing some spyware can damage the Winsock stack and you may
not be able to connect to the Internet. Before you try to remove spyware,
download a copy of LSP-Fix - a free program to repair damaged Winsock 2
stacks (all Windows versions) for use AFTER cleaning out the spyware.

Thanks Frank!
I am checking with my computer savy neice to see what she thinks of your
respnce. Thought I say she is savy, it means only that she might better
evaluate your response rather than saying she would have a response of her
own. Thanks again!
