Internet Freezes and Pop ups

My internet explorer 6 sp 1 on Xp home keeps freezing
every couple seconds i do something. I wont be able to
scroll down or do anything but then it will come back.
And also, when i am not using IE 6, pop ups will keep
poping up like say when im playing a game becuase i have
DSL.What is wrong?
 
If it is "messenger" pop up you can go to your network connection, right
click and go to the connection properties. Make sure the check box is
checked in the firewall area. This will keep the "messenger" pop up from
coming up.
As for the freeze, I'll let somebody else advice on that.
