I have a new computer with Windows XP Professional. Can I set up my computer to be my fax machine without buying a fax machine?

Most likely you can do that. You need a fax-modem, or an external
multi-function device. Since it is new, why don't you call the people who
sold it to you for they are most likely to explain the features your machine
has (not every new machine has the same features).

There is also a fax-to-e-mail services you can sign up for free at
www.j2.com. At this site, you don't need anything except an e-mail account
and access to the internet. When you sign up, you'll get a fax number
that's assigned to you - free. When people fax to your j2 fax number, it
actually gets re-routed to your e-mail. This only works for incoming. If
you want to send out faxes, you'll have to sign-up for j2.com's enhanced
service.
