internet failure

I was unable to get signed on the internet using my aol
broadband service. Time warner came out and got it fixed.
They said there was a winsock error in the registry..I
have no idea what they mean. Please comment.I am running
XP home edition on a dell pc.. 2.6ghz

Winsock is a programming interface and the supporting program that handles
input/output requests for Internet applications in a Windows operating
system. Hard to tell what might have been corrupted in the registry without
being there.
