I seem to be getting IE error messages that IE is having a problem and will
shutdown. Why does IE have to shut down? Why can't IE give the stupid error
message and not shut down? Could this be as a result of downloading the new
XP service pack? I'm running IE version 6 on a Dell 8100 series pc.

Could it be the IE security updates I installed on April 17?

IE Shuts down when an error occures to prevent the rest of the OS from
becoming unstable.

Did this problem start on April 17th? If this problem occurred
sometime after April 17th then I would say the likely hood of the
error being caused by the IE update you performed is slim. Perhaps a
poorly written piece of spy-ware took out your Internet Explorer while
you weren't looking. Check out either Ad-Aware or Spybot - Search &
Destroy.

If your problems started right after you installed the IE update, try
reinstalling IE (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.asp)

What error message are you getting? Specifics always make it easier
to diagnose a problem. Try to provide as much information as you can.
