After an upgrade on 11/13/2005 Internet Explorer dies whenever I try to
download and play videos ( from CNN ). All clones of IE are hung and I have
to end the processes in the task amnager to regain control. I can save a
video file and play it. Tried backing out of the upgrade but that didn't stop
the problem and I started getting a "Rundll" file not found ( cmicnfg.cpl ).
This doesn't seem to affect anything.

Is Automatic Updates enabled? Have you checked in at Windows Update since
13 Nov-05? Are you even been able to access Windows Update?

How to configure and use Automatic Updates in Windows XP:

More importantly, after installing WinXP on 22 Oct-05, did you take care of
everything on the following page before otherwise connecting to the
internet?

Here's why I ask: WININWT.DLL is not a valid Windows file. Translation:

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

Sorry,

It was "wininet.dll:. I re-formated the drive and re-installed XP.
Fixed the problem for a few days.

Thanks
